Visitor gardens at Raby Castle

During her five years at Alistair W Baldwin Studio, Charlotte played a lead role in the delivery of the visitor gardens at Raby Castle in County Durham. Luciano Giubbilei undertook the work to the Walled Gardens themselves and the resulting combination we think is lovely. The castle is Grade I listed and the visitor gardens are located in what had been old walled gardens and agricultural yards.

The gardens developed a real depth due to a great working relationship with Lord & Lady Barnard, the estate workers and mining their intimate knowledge of the estate and also from the underpinning ethos of utilising as much of the material that was discovered on site as possible. The gardens opened to the public in the summer of 2024.
