Who We Are

Morpen is a garden & landscape design studio created in Autumn 2025 by Charlotte Pennell and Chris Morral. Morpen strives to produce gardens and landscapes that respond to the places unique character whilst encouraging nature and biodiversity. Morpen enjoy working at a variety of scales from urban gardens through to large rural estates.

Charlotte qualified as an architect in 2015, then having always harboured a desire to be a florist, began working with local cut flower growers on her weekends helping to grow and arrange locally grown flowers for events. This cut flower experience awakened a love of gardening, and it then seemed natural to pursue landscape design as the perfect meld of architecture and gardening. Initially working for Tom Stuart Smith, the world-renowned landscape designer, Charlotte worked on projects such as the Hôtel du Couvent in Nice and private residences in Ibiza.

After two years Charlotte left London and spent the next five years working for Alistair W Baldwin, a Top 50 House & Garden designer based in North Yorkshire, here she led on the delivery of new large public gardens at Raby Castle in the North East of England which opened in summer 2024. She was promoted to director for the final year of her time at the studio.

Chris sits in the background of most projects, sometimes only appearing on site when the garden works start. He is a born gardener and is making his way with distinction through his RHS qualifications. Chris is deeply practical and logical and brings a level of rationality and efficiency to the implementation of projects.
